
So there I was, contemplating my dried mushroom reserves when I came across a forgotten prize. Hidden at the back of the cupboard behind much larger jars of fairyrings and honey mushrooms was a small container of Deceiver mushrooms otherwise known as
Laccaria Laccata or Lac Lacs.

It had completely slipped my mind that I'd collected enough lac lacs last fall to make up a portion worth preserving. Though lac lacs are said to be quite common, I only ever turn up sparse clutches of them in my regular hunting grounds. They are called Deceivers because they come in varying shades of colour from orange to purple and often in different sizes. I prefer the name "lac lac" simply because it's more pleasant sounding. Lac lacs have a nice, hearty mushroom taste that's good for gravies and that's what I think I'm going to make with this little forgotten treasure...
