First Morel of The Season

The rain subsided long enough for me to get out there to my favourite spots and see what the Spring had to offer. 

As it happens I was a little too late for fiddle heads...

But the half-free morels had indeed started popping up. Take a look at this whopper! It was the largest of the lot that I'd found.

Yeah... So apparently, the season is going to be a little bit late this year. On this date last year there were already seven inch yellow morels in the area and the half-frees were already on their way out. Suits me, though! With all the rain we've been getting, these little half-frees could come up pretty large in the next few days. More on that soon...
