One of my favourite mushroom haunts is a tree plantation. They're easy to access and walk through and because of the regular culling of trees there are stumps in various degrees of decomp nourishing a variety of mushrooms.
Seems some growers in Australia have realized the same potential in these plantations and are experimenting with using leftover logs to grow Shiitakes commercially.
One man's scrap wood is another man's dinner!
